Great Week!

The girls continued to have a great week!  Bridget said a couple of words to her teachers on Wednesday and on Thursday her teacher reported that she had spoken a few words to some other kids - baby steps!  I found out that 2 of her little buddies from the "little school" (as B calls the old place) are coming to the "big school" on Monday.  Hopefully that will help her open up even more.

I really wish I had started Audrey here for pre-K.  On Friday, I got a weekly newsletter with what the kids had been doing and what the theme for next week will be.  The kids earn pennies for doing certain things in class and every Friday they get to spend them in the Pre-K Store.  The teacher gives them a bag with their total amount of money on it and as they pick stuff out, she writes it on the bag so they can figure out how much money they have left.  Audrey came home with some Smarties and Play Doh.  Although the other school was good, I think she will get more from this one.

In other big news, Audrey has her first loose tooth!  She was eating breakfast on Wednesday morning and started crying hysterically.  I asked her if she bit her tongue and she said "No, my tooth!"  I said "Did you bite your lip?" and she said "No, my tooth.  I think I cracked my tooth!!"  I told her to hurry and swallow so I could take a look and I didn't see a crack, but one of her bottom teeth was a little loose.  I hadn't really explained to her about loosing teeth and the Tooth Fairy because I thought we were a ways off from that, but, here we are with a loose tooth!

New School

Yesterday morning, I dropped the girls off for their first day at the new preschool.  Audrey didn't protest her uniform, although she asked why she couldn't wear a dress.

They walked in just fine but Bridget had to be pried from my arms by the director, but she stayed with her and didn't cry.  The director was sweet enough to call me at about 10 and let me know that no tears were shed after I left and that Audrey jumped right in to the class activities.  When her teacher called the kids to go to class at 8 am, Audrey was the first in line!

When I picked up the girls, they were excited to show me their new classrooms.  Bridget thought it was neat that there was an Ava in her new class since she had one in her old class.  Audrey's assistant teacher was in the room when we went to get her backpack.  She also said that Audrey acted like she had been in class the whole  year and participated in all of the activities.  She said at one point, Audrey told her "I like this place better than my old school.  You have more stuff."  I guess Audrey can be won over with material things!  Audrey was also excited that they had a class guinea pig just like her last class, and there was a bunny in the after school class.

She was eager to decorate her school issued tote bag when we got home.  I have some stamps that I've had forever but paint was all dried out.  I ran to Walmart to get some fabric paint and knew that B would want to paint something too, so I picked up a tote bag for her.

Here is Audrey's new bag:

And here is Bridget's.  Out of all of the cute stamps, she picks the dump truck and the train!

Last night, when I asked Audrey what her favorite part of her day was, she said "No more going to the old school!"

This morning, I thought I would test the uniform code and stick some cute tights on Audrey, and apparently it's ok to personalize your uniform with tights because no one said anything to me.

Bridget wanted me to take her picture this morning too.

Today, they told me that Bridget interacted with the kids more but she still hasn't said a word.  I expected that because she is pretty shy around people she doesn't know.  When I went to get Audrey, she was out on the playground playing house with a couple of other little girls.  The after school teacher asked me if it was ok to bring Audrey a special treat tomorrow - she said she was stacking chairs in the room and hadn't asked anyone for help.  She turned around and Audrey was stacking chairs too!  She thought she was so sweet and wanted to bring her a lollipop tomorrow!  Audrey's exciting discovery today was that the after school room has a Wii with Just Dance Kids.

I think it's safe to say that she is very happy there!  I had been debating switching them to a nicer daycare and although I will miss their old teachers and friends, I am kind of glad that had this push to move them!

I just found this photo by Bridget on my phone while downloading the others to post.  Was she being artistic or was she  trying to tell me that she was almost out of cereal?

Crazy Weekend

The week started off normal enough, then went quickly downhill.  One of my co-workers has a daughter in Bridget's class at the daycare.  He called me on Thursday afternoon and said that his wife told him that the daycare was closing down at the end of the month, which is just a week and a half away.  I knew I would find out for sure when I picked the girls up, but I went ahead and started looking online for daycares with the Georgia Pre-K program.  People sign up the January before to get their kids into pre-K, so I was freaking out that I wouldn't be able to move Audrey to another class (besides freaking out that I had a week and a half to find a new daycare).

The rumor was confirmed when I picked the girls up.  The daycare had found another place that had openings in their Pre-K program and would match our current rates.  Unfortunately, I had heard some negative things about that place.  That evening, I emailed a preschool nearby that I have heard good things about and the director called me about a half hour later.  They had 5 spots in their pre-K program and 2 in their 3 year old class.

I went over to tour the place at lunch time on Friday and went ahead and signed the girls up.  It is going to be quite a transition.  For starters, Audrey has to wear a uniform to Pre-K.  Anyone that know Audrey knows that she is my little fashion girl, so it's going to be fun trying to get her to wear a polo shirt and khaki's every day.  Also, Bridget's class is an actual preschool class, so she has to go full time.  No more staying home and playing with Grandpa Pete or the Grandma's.  There is also all sorts of rules that we aren't used to.  Audrey has a certain bookbag that she has to use, we have weekly tuition that is due whether you are present or not (if we take a week off for vacation, we still have to pay a half week to keep our spots), etc.

It's also not very easy to find school uniforms in the middle of the school year.  I ran around to a few places yesterday and found 1 polo shirt and some pants. Luckily, Grandma Mary came to the rescue and found some more polos and some khaki skirts, so Audrey is all ready to go next week!

I think in the long run, it will be a good thing.  While I hate taking the girls out of their comfort zone, this new place focuses much more on education rather than just letting the kids play all day.  In the mean time, I am a nervous wreck about dropping them off tomorrow at a new place with new people.  I will let you know how it goes!

We discovered that poor Avalanche was losing weight - it turns out that he is missing a tooth and was having a hard time eating.  We bought him some soft food and he seems to have perked up some but I still think he needs to go to the vet to make sure nothing else is wrong.  He spends most of his time in Bridget's room.  Audrey made B's bed for her and placed all of her babies on the bed like this - Avalanche seemed to like it!

One or both of the girls usually ends up in our bed in the middle of the night.  The other morning, I got out of the shower to find Amos snuggling Audrey.

A few mintutes later I saw this - I don't know how that didn't wake her up!
Side note : I had to refill out the Pre-K paperwork at the new place on Friday.  One of the sheets asked for personal info about the child and asked for pet types and names.  It had ONE LINE.  I had to squeeze in the dogs and cats and turtles - unfortunately I forgot about poor Rainbow Unicorn.  I think we have too many pets! :)

Here is a picture of Bridget in a ball pit at a birthday party we were at today.
And on a teeny tiny exercise bike

Audrey loves this mermaid shirt from the Gwen Stefani line at Target.  She modeled it off for Daddy tonight and he pointed out the the mermaids arms look like saggy boobs.  Now that's all I'm going to see when she wears this.  As Andy said "It's a good thing her new school has a dress code so she won't be wearing that boob shirt!"

Dressers, Dinos and Dogs

Here is the old dresser that I repainted for the playroom.  It's hard to tell, but it's pale pink with chalkboard paint on the drawers.  I wish I would have done something cuter on the knobs, but Audrey wanted polka dots.

It was dinosaur week in Pre-K and for homework, Audrey was assigned a dinosaur and she had to draw a picture of it and find out a fact about it.  Audrey was assigned the Ichthyosaur and her fact was that he lived in the sea.  She did a great job of drawing it and Andy wrote out her fact and had her copy it onto the paper.

We had movie night last night and watched the Smurfs up in my room.  Audrey ran and got a blanket for the dogs and gave them both sweet snuggles.

And here is poor Hazel napping with the Princesses.  Do you think we have enough?

Freaky Warm Weather

We had a couple of cold days last week but then had a freakishly warm weekend for being the first week of January. I'm still in a cleaning and organizing mood so I've been working some on the house.  I have had these letters since Audrey was a baby and finally took the 3 minutes to hang them!
The girls also got to sit outside and paint with watercolors until it turned into dumping water all over the table and swishing it around with the paint brushes and I made them go back inside.
Saturday evening we decided to take the dogs on a walk on the Greenway.  We have never entered the trail from the new Fowler Park entrance, so we headed up there with Audrey's scooter and the dogs.  Bridget didn't want to bring a scooter or bike, so we let her walk.  She ended up running way ahead of us most of the way.  We need to get her a little track suit and some tiny running shoes!
On the way to and from the trail, you pass a skate park.  I told Audrey that when she is a teenager, this is going to be where she hangs out to watch all of the cute boys on their skateboards.  She said "That is so boring!"  Bridget, on the other hand, already wanted to stop and watch the skaters.  Audrey did want to pose next to this statue and she said "Take our picture and text it to Grandma Mary and Grandma Carol."  So, I did!
When we got home, the girls were exhausted, especially since B didn't take a nap and did all of that jogging. Audrey get hyper when she's overtired, so she was trying to wrestle and hug Bridget.  Finally Bridget yelled "AH-DEE, STOP PLAYING WITH ME.  I NOT A TOY!"  A little later, Audrey told me that she didn't feel good "after all of the running and jumping and skipping and playing."  She then asked for a bed time snack.  I said "I thought you didn't feel good."  She replied with "I don't feel good from all of that playing, not from all of that eating!"

I spent the day today painting the old dresser from the playroom.  I will post a post a picture of it after I have it back upstairs and put back together but I will tell you that it's pink and black and cute! :)

Miscellaneous

The girls wanted to stay up until midnight on New Year's Eve, so we pulled out the sofa bed and put on the Dick Clark Countdown.  Unfortunately they both passed out at about 11, but they almost made it!  On New Year's Day, I decided that I needed to really clean out the playroom so we could fit the new toys in there.  We filled up the back of Andy's truck with stuff for Goodwill and I still have some stuff that I want to get out of there.  I also plan on repainting an old dresser and desk in there - Pinterest has me feeling crafty!  The play room may look messy to you, but this is a huge improvement!
The girls were able to sit in their chairs and watch a movie in there for the first time in months.

I also picked up the girls rooms while I was at it and had to snap a photo for prosperity:

We also got to play outside for a while because the weather was unusually warm.  We brought their new scooters out but Bridget doesn't really get how to use hers yet, so she just "helped" Audrey.

I had the day off of work on Monday and wanted to get out of the house by myself for a while.  I wanted to run down to Jo-Ann Fabrics just because I hadn't been there in a long time and wanted to see what kind of Christmas stuff they had left on clearance.  Audrey wanted to go with me but I told her that I was going to a boring craft store.  She said "But when you leave me home with Daddy, he drives me crazy!"  I couldn't argue with that, so I ended up bringing her with me! :)

Here are some more photos of the girls.  This is Bridget feeding her new Baby Alive, Sally.  Sally basically has a hole that goes from her mouth to her tush, so we had to change her diaper many times that day - I thought I was done with diapers!

Tuesday morning was really cold and the girls looked so cute all bundled up.  Poor Audrey inherited her Dad's morning eye bags.  I texted this picture to Andy and he asked me if I punched Audrey in the face - nice!

While she was so sleepy that morning, I dressed her in corduroys and a sweater.  I thought she would pitch a fit about wanting to wear a dress or "soft pants," but she didn't say a word.  Yesterday I tried again with a pair of jeans and she wore them without a word too - this is the first time she's worn jeans in a long time!

Yesterday Audrey gave me this picture of Ariel, Founder and Sebastian that she drew for me at school.  It's so cute!

After we got home, she decided to take the picture back and give it to Rainbow (her goldfish).  She got her crayons out, added Rainbow to the picture under Ariel.  She had me hang it behind Rainbow's tank so she could see it.  :)

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!  2011 started off pretty crappy.  Andy was laid off right around Christmas of 2010, so he wasn't working and I was stuck at a horrible dead end job that was an hour away from home.  To say that I was stressed and unhappy would be an understatement!  But, things got better - Andy got a new job that he loves in April and I got a new job that I love in August.  Audrey started pre-K, quit needing pull-ups overnight and continues her love of fashion.  Bridget was potty trained in record time, loves daycare and keeps us laughing with her goofy ways.  2012 can only bring great things for the Farbotkos!

I plan on asking the girls some end of year questions every New Year's Eve.  Here are Audrey's answers (I think if you click on the picture it will make it bigger):
Bridget's answers don't make a whole lot of sense (we never went to a farm last year and she wants to be a chicken when she grows up), but they made us chuckle!
